Engine Selection

Almost any Gen III/IV LS will fit with the right mounts and oil pan. The most common choices in the Gen Coupe community are 5.3s, LS1s, and LS3-style engines.

Common Choices

  • 5.3L (LM7, LY5, etc.) — cheapest and most available. Plenty of power for a street car; responds well to a cam and headers.
  • 6.0L (LQ4/LQ9) — strong iron-block option, good for boost later.
  • LS1 / LS2 / LS3 — aluminum, lighter, more aftermarket support. LS3-style is the sweet spot for many Gen Coupe builds.
  • LSA / LS9 — supercharged from the factory; more expensive but turn-key power.

Whatever you choose, buy the long-block with accessories if possible (alternator, power steering pump, intake, coils). Corvette accessory spacing is often preferred on BK1 for radiator clearance; BK2 has roughly 1.5" more room.
